Myocardial Mechanical Responses and Ionic Exchange

چکیده
The effects of an extracellular sodium (Na) concentration of 200 mM on function, ionic exchange, and water movements were examined in the vascularly perfused rabbit intraventricular septum. When the perfusate was switched from 142 mMNa to 200 mMNa, dP/ dt fell 20.4% over 2 minutes; dP/dt then recovered to the control level. The time course of the functional recovery correlated with the uptake of Na into the slowly exchangeable fraction of the tissue, and the rate of recovery in 200 mM Na depended on the frequency of contraction of the preparation. During perfusion with 200 mM Na, a 41% increase in slow-phase Na content compared with the content during perfusion with 142 mM Na was observed. The hyperosmolar perfusate induced a 21% cellular dehydration within 10 minutes as estimated from measurement of 10-minute SO4 space and total tissue water. The time course of dehydration was much more rapid than the time course of functional recovery. Calcium (Ca) influx during the period when dP/dt had returned to control levels in 200 mM Na was the same as it was during a control period in 142 mM Na. Thus, there appears to be a Na-Ca exchange system which enhances Ca influx and thus causes an inotropic effect in response to an increase in intracellular Na concentration.

متن کاملThe Effects of Temperature upon Contraction and Ionic Exchange in Rabbit Ventricular Myocardium
The mechanical responses (active and resting tension, dP/dt, TPT) and ionic exchange characteristics (Ca(++), K(+), Na(+)) which follow upon a variation in temperature, rate, and [K(+)](o) were studied in the rabbit papillary muscle and arterially perfused rabbit interventricular setpum. Abrupt changes in temperature provided a means of separating the contributions of rate of development (inten...
متن کاملAn Improvement to the Properties of GAP Binder with Energetic Ionic Liquids
Glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) is used as a binder in the propellants. Energetic ionic liquids are used as a plasticizer to correct the properties of polymer. In this study, first ionic liquid was bonded to the GAP by certain amount and then the energetic anions of nitrate (NO3) and azide (N3) were used to exchange anion. FTIR analyses confirm accurately anions exchange. DSC, viscometer and heat ...
متن کاملPoly (Ether Ether Ketone) Based Anion Exchange Membrane for Solid Alkaline Fuel Cell: A Review
Solid alkaline fuel cell is employed by polymer anion exchange membrane (AEM) that is permeable to hydroxide ion. A number of polymers have been proposed for AEM which include polysulfone (PSF), poly (phenylene oxide) (PPO), and poly (ether ether ketone) (PEEK). The purpose of this paper was to conduct a critical review on the development of PEEK polymer as AEM, particu...

The surface of neonatal rat cells in culture, neonatal rat hearts, and adult rabbit hearts have qualitatively similar responses to lanthanum, ruthenium red, and colloidal iron stains. All demonstrate a surface coat and external lamina with abundant negatively charged sites. Cells with intact surface structure do not permit entry of lanthanum (La) intracellularly. The surface of all the myocardi...
